Visa expands AI commerce push with OpenAI partnership

Visa said on June 11 at its Visa Payments Forum in San Francisco that it was expanding its work in AI commerce and blockchain-based settlement.

The effort include a collaboration with OpenAI built on Visa Intelligent Commerce.

Visa said the OpenAI collaboration would bring Visa payment capabilities into OpenAI experiences for developers and merchants.

In that partnership, transactions could use tokenized Visa credentials tied to specific AI agents and use cases. The system also includes authorization, and fraud monitoring.

The company also said its stablecoin settlement volume had reached an annualized run rate of about US$7 billion as of March 2026.

That compares with an annualized tun rate of US$3.5 billion disclosed as of November 30, 2025.
