Visa to acquire fraud prevention firm BioCatch
Visa is acquiring BioCatch, an Israel-based fraud prevention software company, for US$2.4 billion in cash. The deal expands Visa’s tools for financial institutions to detect scams and account takeovers before fraudulent transactions occur.
The deal is expected to close by the end of Visa’s fiscal second quarter of 2027, which Visa typically reports in late April, subject to regulatory approvals.
It follows private equity firm Permira’s 2024 purchase of a controlling stake in BioCatch in a deal that valued the company at about US$1.3 billion.
Founded in 2011, BioCatch develops behavioural biometrics technology for fraud detection and prevention.
Visa said BioCatch protects 1.8 billion devices and 760 million users worldwide, and serves more than 350 banking customers across 21 countries, including more than 100 of the world’s largest banks.
BioCatch CEO Gadi Mazor said the acquisition is not expected to change how the company operates and that he is expected to remain in the role.
The acquisition adds to Visa’s risk and fraud services business, where the company said its products help customers manage risk and reduce fraud.
