Vietnamese biotech startup Gene Solutions seeks $100m pre-IPO

Gene Solutions, a Vietnam-founded biotechnology firm, is seeking to raise US$100 million through a pre-IPO round and a potential listing as soon as 2026.

The company, which offers prenatal and cancer screenings using next-generation sequencing and AI, is considering listing in either Singapore or Hong Kong, according to CFO Keng Hsu.

The planned fundraising includes up to US$50 million from the pre-IPO round and another US$50 million at the potential listing.

China International Capital Corp is advising on the pre-IPO round.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Gene Solutions’ expansion depends on navigating NIPT rules and reimbursement across Southeast Asia

  • Gene Solutions held about 90% of Vietnam’s NIPT market in 2021 1, yet growth across Southeast Asia faces uneven rules and spotty reimbursement 2.
  • Asia-Pacific NIPT could grow from $1.33 billion in 2024 to $4.57 billion by 2033 2. Emerging markets lack labs and clear oversight, limiting rural access 2.
  • Singapore covers NIPT for high-risk pregnancies 2. Many markets need outreach and lab capacity 2. Owned labs and in-house R&D help Gene Solutions cut costs 3, but prices near $350 to $400 in India and about $500 in Australia strain families 2.

Medical device makers and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) vendors have openings as Gene Solutions expands across Southeast Asia

  • An oncology lab in Singapore was due November 2023 3, and the firm entered five new countries in a year 1.
  • These moves lift demand for next-generation sequencing platforms and LIMS. They also raise demand for bioinformatics infrastructure (software plus computing used to analyze genetic data) and AI-powered variant interpretation tools (software that helps classify genetic mutations for clinical relevance).
  • Cross-border sample logistics providers can target operations in Vietnam and the Philippines 3. They also cover Indonesia and Thailand 3. Singapore is included 3. These companies manage collection, cold-chain transport, and customs clearance of biological specimens between countries.
  • Advisors on regulation and reimbursement can steer market entry, since Texas Medicaid removed prior authorization for NIPT 4 and rules can shift fast by jurisdiction.
