Vietnam struggles to lure foreign investors despite IPO surge

Vietnam’s IPO market is seeing increased activity, driven by a surge in share prices, regulatory changes, and higher credit availability, but foreign investors remain cautious.

Last week, Techcom Securities, the brokerage arm of Techcombank, raised US$410 million in one of the country’s largest recent IPOs, valuing the company at US$4 billion.

This single IPO accounted for nearly half the value of all 36 IPOs in Malaysia so far this year, according to LSEG Workspace.

Vietnam’s stock index has climbed 29% in 2025, making it Southeast Asia’s best-performing market.

Recent IPOs include Vinpearl, a resort business owned by Vingroup, which raised about US$190 million in May after returning to the market.

Other companies, such as units of Hoa Phat Group and VPBank, have announced IPO plans, while Dragon Capital highlights potential future listings like VPS and Long Chau pharmacy.
