Verizon signs multibillion-dollar Corning fiber deal
Verizon has signed an agreement with Corning, a US specialty glassmaker, for more than 80 million miles of high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions from 2027 to 2032, as the US telecom expands broadband networks and upgrades infrastructure for AI workloads.
Verizon said the deal is worth several billion dollars, but did not disclose financial terms.
The company said the agreement builds on a three-decade partnership and would speed up broadband expansion for homes and businesses while supporting the high-capacity, low-latency infrastructure used by AI hyperscalers.
The deal also comes as AI data centers use 36x more fiber than earlier designs, raising demand for optical networks and related equipment.
It also comes as US fiber supply remains tight, threatening broadband deployment targets and potentially prompting telecom carriers to seek longer-term supply certainty.
