Verizon lifts outlook as demand for premium plans grows

US wireless carrier Verizon raised its 2025 profit forecast after reporting strong second-quarter earnings and increased demand for premium plans.

The company’s shares rose 3.5% on July 21, 2025 following better-than-expected sales and profits for the second quarter.

Verizon posted US$34.5 billion in revenue, beating analyst expectations, with adjusted earnings per share of US$1.22.

Verizon’s Chief Financial Officer, Tony Skiadas, said that recent tax reforms allowing full cost deductions for certain new equipment could increase the company’s free cash flow by US$1.5 billion to US$2 billion this year.

Consequently, Verizon has updated its free cash flow forecast for 2025 to a range of US$19.5 billion to US$20.5 billion, up from the previous range of US$17.5 billion to US$18.5 billion.

Despite losing 9,000 postpaid wireless users due to price hikes, Verizon added 293,000 broadband subscribers through fiber growth.

To stay competitive against AT&T and others, Verizon is offering price-lock deals and bundles, aiming for 1% to 3% profit growth next year.
