US VC firm Redpoint raises $650m for early-stage startups

San Francisco-based Redpoint Ventures has raised US$650 million for its 10th early-stage fund, according to a regulatory filing.

The fund size is consistent with the firm’s previous early-stage fund raised nearly three years ago.

The early-stage strategy at Redpoint is led by Alex Bard, Satish Dharmaraj, Annie Kadavy, and Erica Brescia, who joined the firm in 2021.

Recent investments by this team include AI coding startup Poolside, distributed SQL database developer Cockroach Labs, and procurement platform Levelpath.

Redpoint also manages a growth-stage fund, which raised US$740 million for its fifth fund last year.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Redpoint’s consistency bucks the trend in a cautious venture market

While Redpoint maintained its early-stage fund size at $650 million, many venture firms have been reducing their capital raises in recent quarters.

This stability is particularly notable within broader industry trends where top VC funds captured 75% of all capital raised in 2024, demonstrating a clear preference for established managers 1.

The consistency in fund size suggests Redpoint’s limited partners remain confident in the firm’s investment approach despite the more selective fundraising environment facing venture capital as a whole.

Their steady approach stands in contrast to the broader VC landscape where late-stage companies face acute funding shortages, with many startups experiencing extended gaps between funding rounds 2.

For Redpoint, maintaining fund size while simultaneously growing their growth fund (from $725M to $740M) positions them to support companies throughout multiple stages, which is advantageous when the overall VC market is approaching investments with heightened caution.

2️⃣ Multi-stage investment strategies provide resilience in shifting markets

Redpoint’s structure, with dedicated early-stage and growth teams, exemplifies how established venture firms can create organizational resilience across market cycles.

Founded in 1999, Redpoint has navigated multiple economic downturns and has funded over 450 companies with more than 140 successful exits through IPOs or acquisitions 3.
