VC firm Paradigm backs $5.2m seed funding for crypto firm 3Jane
Venture capital firm Paradigm has led a US$5.2 million seed funding round for 3Jane, a crypto credit startup that recently emerged from stealth mode.
3Jane aims to introduce unsecured credit to the digital assets sector through a protocol described as a “peer-to-pool credit-based money market.”
This will provide real-time unsecured USDC credit lines to yield farmers, traders, businesses, and AI agents.
Unlike traditional collateral-based lending, 3Jane evaluates credit using off-chain financial data like credit scores, cash flows, and assets from DeFi, centralized exchanges, and banks.
The company plans to launch its mainnet in Q3 2025, targeting the US market, which offers over US$1 trillion in credit and revenue-based loan opportunities.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Bridging the collateralization gap in crypto lending
The crypto lending market has historically been dominated by over-collateralized loans that require borrowers to deposit more value than they receive, limiting capital efficiency and accessibility.
While DeFi lending has grown significantly to $19.1 billion in open loans (nearly double CeFi’s $11 billion), almost all existing solutions require substantial collateral, typically 125-150% of the loan value 1.
Traditional unsecured credit markets that 3Jane aims to tap represent a massive $1 trillion opportunity in the US alone, dwarfing current DeFi lending volumes and highlighting the potential growth runway if successful 2.
Most established crypto loan providers like Ledn, Nexo, and Unchained Capital have built their businesses entirely around collateralized lending models, creating a market gap for alternatives that more closely resemble traditional credit lines 3.
The industry’s transition toward unsecured lending represents a critical evolution for DeFi, potentially enabling the same capital efficiency advantages that have made unsecured credit fundamental to traditional financial systems.
2️⃣ Regulatory shifts creating opportunities for crypto-credit innovation
Recent regulatory developments have created a more conducive environment for crypto credit innovation, with both the FDIC and OCC clarifying that banks can engage in crypto-related activities without prior approval 4, 5.
Traditional financial institutions are increasingly exploring crypto services as regulatory clarity improves, creating potential partnership opportunities for innovative credit platforms like 3Jane 5.
