US to send AI specialists overseas to counter China

The US government plans to establish the Technology Prosperity Corps, a program to send up to 5,000 American science and math graduates abroad over five years to promote US AI technology adoption in partner countries.

The initiative aims to reduce reliance on Chinese-made technology by embedding volunteers with local organizations to support AI deployment.

White House officials expect to announce the program at the India AI Impact Summit, with recruitment starting this year for an initial cohort of 500 volunteers.

The program will involve coordination between multiple US agencies, including the State Department and the International Development Finance Corporation.

Funding will include contributions from corporations and charities, aiming to strengthen US influence in AI adoption in the developing world.

This effort is part of broader US strategies to compete with China in the global tech landscape.
