US tech giants to invest over $42.3b in UK digital infrastructure
US tech companies including Microsoft, OpenAI, Nvidia, Salesforce, and Google have announced plans to invest over £31 billion (US$42.3 billion) in UK tech infrastructure, according to the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
The investments will focus on AI, quantum computing, and data center projects.
Microsoft will spend US$30 billion over four years to expand its AI infrastructure and business in the UK, including building a supercomputer with more than 23,000 advanced GPUs in partnership with Nscale Global Holdings.
Nvidia said its technology will be part of an £11 billion investment in AI data centers, with plans to deploy 120,000 AI accelerator chips in the UK by 2026, working with Nscale and CoreWeave.
CoreWeave announced a US$1.5 billion investment in a DataVita-owned facility in Scotland, in addition to US$1 billion already committed to other UK sites.
Salesforce plans to spend an additional US$2 billion in the UK through 2030, while Google said it will invest £5 billion over two years.
BlackRock is investing £500 million into UK data centers.
