US Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban

The United States Supreme Court on Jan. 17 upheld a law that allows a potential ban on TikTok to take place starting two days later due to national security concerns.

The decision comes as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office on Jan. 20.

In its unsigned opinion, the court acknowledged TikTok’s importance as a platform for expression.

It stated the divestiture requirement alleviates government concerns without excessively limiting free speech.
