US startup Robomart unveils robot to operate on-demand delivery
Robomart, a Los Angeles-based startup developing self-driving delivery robots, has announced its new Robomart RM5 model.
The RM5 is a level-four autonomous vehicle that can carry up to 500 pounds and features 10 individual lockers for batch deliveries.
Robomart plans to use these robots to launch an on-demand delivery service in Austin, Texas, later this year, with retailers able to set up storefronts on the company’s app.
The service will charge customers a flat US$3 delivery fee per order.
Founded in 2017, Robomart previously operated a mobile autonomous store model delivering goods directly to customers.
The company has raised under US$5 million from investors such as Hustle Fund, SOSV, and Wasabi Ventures.
Robomart’s entry comes as established food delivery platforms continue to compete in the crowded on-demand delivery market.
