US startup Amogy plans hydrogen production pilot in Singapore
Amogy, a US startup developing ammonia-to-power technology, said on October 23 that it would pilot its ammonia cracking technology with Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) at the Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed on Jurong Island. The project is supported by Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB).
The testbed broke ground at the Singapore Industry Decarbonisation Forum. Amogy plans to deploy its module in 2027, with system designed to produce up to 1 ton of hydrogen a day under industrial operating conditions.
The project builds on a partnership announced in September 2025, which alos covers research into lower-cost catalysts and plans for Amogy’s first research and development center outside the US, in Singapore.
Ammonia cracking decomposes ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen. Achieving high conversion at lower temperatures remains a challenge, with catalyst performance and energy use among the considerations.
The pilot fits Singapore’s national hydrogen strategy, which sees low-carbon hydrogen as part of long-term power and industrial decarbonization. Singapore is also positioning Jurong Island for low-carbon technology deployment.
