US senator demands answers from OpenAI on teen safety risks
US Senator Josh Hawley has asked OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to provide documents and details about the risks ChatGPT may pose to children and teens.
The request expands an ongoing congressional investigation into AI chatbots and their impact on young users.
Hawley’s letter follows a recent hearing where parents discussed concerns about ChatGPT and potential harm to minors.
He told Altman the company is responsible for addressing these risks, and set an October 17 deadline to respond to questions about product research, design, and any incidents involving teen users.
Hawley began a similar inquiry last month into Meta’s chatbot features after reports of inappropriate interactions with teens.
