Two US lawmakers have requested the administration to impose new restrictions on Nvidia’s advanced AI chips export, citing their use by Chinese company DeepSeek.

Representatives John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi send a letter to National Security Advisor Michael Waltz on Jan. 29, highlighting concerns over the Nvidia H20 chip.

Their requests follows a broader review by the Commerce and State Departments on US export controls for strategic adversaries.

The chip, currently not covered by existing US export controls, has been widely used by DeepSeek for its latest AI model.

The lawmakers warn that DeepSeek’s new AI assistant, which operate at lower costs and with less data, could pose risks in cyberattacks or bioweapons development.

Nvidia responded by said that its products adhere to existing government regulations and is open to working with officials in AI policy, while DeepSeek and the White House have not commented.
