US gov't launches AI initiative with Amazon, other tech giants

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced that 24 organizations are joining the Genesis Mission, an initiative focused on using AI in scientific research, national security, and energy innovation.

The Genesis Mission aims to accelerate discovery and bolster research capabilities through AI partnerships with companies, universities, non-profits, and federal agencies.

Participants include major tech firms such as Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Nvidia, and OpenAI, as well as other industry and research groups.

DOE officials said these efforts are part of ongoing work to strengthen the national AI infrastructure and promote public-private collaboration.

The organizations have either responded to DOE requests for information, signed memorandums of understanding, or are already working on related projects with the department and national labs.

The DOE is accepting further proposals for AI partnerships, with open requests for information closing on January 14 and January 23, 2026.
