US food delivery firm Grubhub lays off over 20% of workforce

US-based food delivery firm Grubhub is laying off over 20% of its workforce or about 500 employees.

The job cuts are part of a restructuring effort after its recent acquisition by food delivery startup Wonder.

CEO Howard Migdal confirmed the layoffs, which follow the deal finalized last month.

Before this, Grubhub had more than 2,200 full-time employees.

Previously owned by Just Eat Takeaway, Grubhub was sold to Wonder in 2024 for US$650 million, a significant financial loss for its former parent company.

Alongside the layoffs, Grubhub partnered with autonomous technology firm Avride to introduce delivery robots on US college campuses.

The initiative aims to tackle labor challenges and reduce reliance on traditional vehicles.
