US fintech firm Tala secures $150m debt facility

US-based fintech company Tala has secured a US$150 million debt facility from funds managed by Neuberger Berman to support its operations in Mexico.

The financing starts at US$75 million, with an option to increase to US$150 million.

Tala plans to use the funds to expand services for small-business owners, who make up a significant portion of its client base.

Tala has over 3 million clients in Mexico and issued more than US$500 million in loans in the country in 2024. Its global client base now exceeds 10 million users.

The average loan size is approximately 2,300 pesos (US$115.41), according to CEO and founder Shivani Siroya.

Mexico is currently Tala’s only market in Latin America, but the company also operates in Southeast Asia and East Africa.

Siroya hinted at potential regional expansions, saying there is “more to come” this year.
