US electric aircraft maker Beta Technologies targets $825m IPO

Beta Technologies, a Vermont-based electric aviation startup, has set its IPO share price range at US$27 to US$33, aiming to raise up to US$825 million, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

A successful sale at the top end would value the company at about US$7.2 billion.

Beta Technologies, founded in 2017 by CEO Kyle Clark, develops and builds electric aircraft and has raised US$1.2 billion from institutional investors such as Fidelity and Qatar Investment Authority.

The company has not taken traditional VC funding.

Last month, Beta Technologies announced a strategic deal with GE Aerospace, in which GE Aerospace agreed to take a stake in the company and invest US$300 million to build a hybrid-electric turbogenerator for next-generation aircraft.

Several companies are moving ahead with IPOs under new SEC guidance allowing filings to become effective after 20 days, even during a government shutdown, though it is not confirmed that Beta is using this rule.
