US crypto treasury firm Tao Synergies raises $11m funding
TAO Synergies, a US-based company focused on digital asset treasury management in the Bittensor ecosystem, has entered into a securities purchase agreement for US$11 million in new funding from existing investor James Altucher and new investor DCG.
The deal involves the sale of 11,000 shares of newly issued series E convertible preferred stock at US$1,000 per share, convertible into common stock, along with five-year warrants to purchase common stock at an exercise price of US$8 per share.
The private placement was priced above the five-day trailing average and was offered only to accredited investors.
TAO Synergies said the transaction is expected to close around October 15, 2025, pending customary conditions.
The company has agreed to file registration statements with the SEC to enable resale of the unregistered securities.
TAO Synergies manages cryptocurrency assets, primarily TAO tokens, and joins the Bittensor decentralized AI network.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Digital Currency Group (DCG) invests and participates in Bittensor, but the press release omits key terms
- DCG invests in the Bittensor ecosystem and incubates projects 1. It joined the $11 million TAO Synergies raise. Yuma, its staking arm, runs a validator on Bittensor 2. A validator is a specialized node that secures a blockchain network and earns rewards.
- The press release omits warrant coverage ratios, anti-dilution terms, and registration rights timing. These usually appear in an 8-K, a current report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), or a later SEC filing. Without them, holders cannot gauge dilution for TAO Synergies stock.
- The $8.00 conversion and exercise price sits above the five-day trailing average 1. Without the warrant count and share count, investors cannot size dilution from the preferred stock plus warrants.
Custody and staking firms race to win institutional TAO demand
- Custodians now support TAO, including Copper 3, BitGo 2, and FalconX 4. Each offers institutional staking.
- Custodians without TAO staking can back tokens and staking strategies under this financing 1. Staking means locking tokens to help secure a network in exchange for rewards. That opens room to partner with validators or build in-house staking.
- These custody updates skip slashing insurance, so institutions staking TAO face validator penalties 4. Slashing means automatic cuts to staked assets if validators fail or go offline. That gap leaves room for crypto insurance providers, specialty insurers for digital assets, to sell slashing cover like in Ethereum staking. Staked 5 should pursue partnerships.
