US consumer goods firm Upexi to raise $100m for Solana
Upexi Inc. announced plans to raise US$100 million to invest in Solana cryptocurrency, causing its shares to jump over 300% during early trading on April 21.
The US-based consumer product company has entered agreements to sell about 43.9 million shares or pre-funded warrants at US$2.28 per share in a private placement.
The deal is expected to close on April 24.
GSR, a crypto-focused trading and investment firm, is leading the round, with White Star Capital also participating.
Upexi will use US$5.3 million for working capital and debt reduction. The rest will go toward purchasing Solana tokens and setting up its Solana treasury operations.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Corporate crypto treasury strategies expanding beyond Bitcoin
Upexi’s $100 million Solana investment represents an evolution of the corporate cryptocurrency treasury strategy pioneered by MicroStrategy with Bitcoin.
The trend is diversifying to alternative cryptocurrencies, with Janover Inc. recently purchasing $10.5 million in Solana tokens on April 15 after former Kraken executives took a majority stake1.
Upexi’s strategic shift reflects a broader corporate appetite for cryptocurrency exposure, as indicated in their earlier announcement establishing a digital currency holding company with a minimum 50% allocation to Bitcoin and the remainder to other cryptocurrencies2.
This pattern signals growing institutional confidence in cryptocurrencies beyond Bitcoin, with companies developing comprehensive portfolio approaches rather than single-asset strategies.
The moves mirror the projected growth of the cryptocurrency market, which analysts expect to reach $5 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 15.4%3.
2️⃣ Dramatic market reactions show speculative appetite for corporate crypto plays
Upexi’s stock surged over 300% following its Solana treasury announcement, a dramatic reaction considering its pre-announcement market capitalization was just $3 million.
This extreme market response follows a similar pattern seen with Janover Inc., whose stock price “ballooned by more than 1,000%” after announcing its Solana investment strategy4.
