US awards Samsung over $4.7b through CHIPS Act
The United States Department of Commerce has awarded Samsung Electronics up to US$4.745 billion through the CHIPS Incentives Program, part of its CHIPS Act, to support the tech giant’s semiconductor operations in Texas.
This comes after the completion of due diligence and a memorandum of terms signed in April this year.
Samsung plans to invest over US$37 billion to establish two advanced logic fabrication plants, an R&D facility in Taylor, and expand its Austin site.
This expansion positions the United States as the sole country hosting manufacturing facilities for all five major global semiconductor makers.
The project is expected to create 12,000 construction jobs and 3,500 manufacturing roles.
