The United States Department of Justice has requested a federal appeals court to dismiss ByteDance and TikTok’s emergency motion.

The motion aims to delay enforcing a law that mandates TikTok’s separation from Chinese ownership by January 19.

ByteDance and TikTok, the companies behind the popular social media application, filed the motion on Monday. They are seeking to block the divestment requirement and allow for a US Supreme Court review.

The Justice Department opposes this delay, stressing national security risks posed by TikTok’s Chinese links.
