US adds 80 firms to blacklist, over 50 from China
The US has added 80 organizations and companies to its export blacklist to prevent China from acquiring advanced computing technologies for military use.
The restrictions, announced by the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), aim to limit foreign access to American-made chips.
Over 50 of the entities are based in China, while others are in Iran, Taiwan, Pakistan, South Africa, and the UAE.
BIS said these entities acted “contrary to US national security and foreign policy,” targeting technologies like high-performance computing, AI, quantum technologies, and hypersonic weapons development.
Among the blacklisted entities are six subsidiaries of Inspur Group, a major Chinese cloud computing provider, accused of aiding Chinese military supercomputers. The Beijing Academy of AI was also added and has criticized its inclusion.
China’s Foreign Ministry condemned the move, calling it a violation of international law. The restrictions reflect ongoing tensions between the US and China, fueled by trade disputes and previous US-imposed tariffs.
