UOB signs AWS MOU to explore hybrid cloud, AI
UOB, a Singapore-headquartered bank with operations across Southeast Asia, said on October 9 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Amazon Web Services.
The agreement will explore hybrid cloud infrastructure and AI-driven banking across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Initial areas of focus include cloud architecture, data and analytics, and AI-powered customer engagement.
UOB will also explore Amazon Bedrock for generative AI applications, as well as AWS programs to train employees in cloud and AI skills.
The model would combine on-premises infrastructure with cloud environments, including a dedicated environment in Singapore designed to meet UOB’s security, governance, and data residency requirements across the five markets.
Regulatory compliance is a consideration for banks using cloud services in Singapore.
The tie-up comes as Amazon said its planned investments in Southeast Asia cloud and AI infrastructure are expected to exceed US$33 billion by 2039.
