Uno Digital Bank hits breakeven ahead of 2026 target
Uno Digital Bank, a Philippines-based digital bank said it reached operating break-even before provisions in February 2026, ahead of releasing its March balance sheet.
CEO Manish Bhai said the result reflects a focus on credit discipline and operating efficiency.
Total loan disbursements have hit PHP 15 billion (US$246.83 million), and it is on track for its active loan book to top PHP 10 billion (US$164.55 million) by end-2026.
Uno uses real-time underwriting that includes alternative data, such as mobile usage and utility payments, to assess borrowers.
The bank also now offers free QR Ph transfers, and has a biometric-led app experience.
Uno is targeting full profit-and-loss break-even within 2026, and plans to add new products and channels.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Uno reached break-even early with an early license and strong funding
- Uno Digital Bank (UNObank, Inc.) was billed as the first Filipino fintech to get an outright digital banking license approval from the Philippines’ central bank, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), under the Digital Banking License framework 1.
- It later joined the group of BSP-licensed digital banks that began operating after receiving certificates of authority (COA), with several digital banks active since August 2022 2.
- Its Singapore-headquartered primary incorporator, FinTech UNOAsia Pte. Ltd. (UNOAsia), raised $44.5 million across pre-seed, seed, and pre-Series A rounds (early startup funding stages), with backing that included Creador Private Equity (a private equity firm), before UNO Digital Bank’s commercial launch 3. The raise leaned on estimates of about 45 million underbanked adults out of a 70 million adult population and only 10% borrowing from the organized sector 3.
Uno’s result backs the BSP framework and stricter enforcement
- The break-even milestone supports the BSP’s digital bank regime, since the BSP has said it will reopen digital banking license applications in 2025 2.
- UNOAsia’s ability to raise large funding for a market entry offers one model for fintechs planning regional expansion 3.
- The outcome also sharpens attention on the BSP’s concern about firms that “behave like a digital bank” while holding other license types, plus the push to apply the same ₱1 billion minimum capital requirement for digital bank licensing 2.
