US lags China in energy growth, risks AI competitiveness: Anthropic

San Francisco-based AI company Anthropic has warned that the US risks falling behind in the AI race with China due to a significant gap in energy infrastructure growth.

According to Anthropic, the US added only a small fraction of the power capacity that China did last year.

The US contributed several dozen gigawatts compared to 400 gigawatts in China, based on February data from Australian think tank Climate Energy Finance.

Anthropic stated that the US AI sector will need at least 50 gigawatts of power capacity by 2028 to meet rising demands.

The company urged for regulatory reforms to speed up power infrastructure development. It warned that delays could affect the country’s competitiveness in the global AI market.
