Uniqlo parent company posts $12.5b sales, record profit rise
Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, reported record group sales of ¥1.79 trillion (US$12.52 billion) for the six months ending in February, a 12% increase from the previous year.
The growth was driven by strong domestic demand for Heattech garments and down jackets, along with solid holiday season sales.
Sales also rose in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe, while revenues in China and Hong Kong declined due to weaker consumption.
Operating profit jumped 18.3% to ¥304.2 billion (US$2.13 billion), and net profit rose 19.2% to ¥233.5 billion (US$1.63 billion), both hitting record highs for the period.
The company raised its full-year forecast, expecting operating profit to reach ¥545 billion (US$3.81 billion) and net profit to hit ¥410 billion (US$2.87 billion).
Fast Retailing also noted that US tariffs would have minimal impact, as products for the second half have already been delivered to stores.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Regional diversification delivers record performance despite China slowdown
Fast Retailing’s record first-half results demonstrate how strategic market diversification can offset regional weaknesses in today’s global retail landscape.
While the company faced a 4% year-over-year revenue decline in Mainland China due to weak consumer appetite 1, strong performances in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe more than compensated for this shortfall 2.
This regional balance helped drive overall revenue up 12% to ¥1.79 trillion and operating profit up 18.3% to ¥304.2 billion, both first-half records. This showcases how geographic diversification provides resilience against localized market challenges.
The contrast is particularly evident in UNIQLO International’s performance, which grew revenue by 14.7% year-over-year to 1.0141 trillion yen despite China’s struggles, highlighting the importance of maintaining multiple growth markets 2.
The company’s successful diversification strategy is further reflected in store expansion plans that will grow its global network to 3,698 locations by August 2025, strengthening its international presence 1.
2️⃣ Japanese retail revival powered by strategic product development and tourism
Fast Retailing’s domestic performance reveals how Japanese retailers can thrive despite the country’s challenging demographic trends through targeted product strategies and tourism spending.
