Unicommerce CTO resigns after 8 years
Unicommerce’s chief technology officer Bhupinder Garg resigned from his position on April 15, 2025, citing personal reasons.
The company confirmed his resignation in a filing on April 16.
Garg joined Unicommerce in October 2017 and was responsible for engineering and product development.
He expanded the company’s product offerings to include direct-to-consumer and business-to-business solutions.
Before Unicommerce, Garg worked at Snapdeal, Amazon, D. E. Shaw & Co, and Microsoft, accumulating nearly two decades of engineering experience.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Internal succession reflects growing talent depth in Indian SaaS companies
Unicommerce’s approach to Garg’s succession demonstrates a maturing talent development strategy increasingly common in India’s growing SaaS sector.
Rather than seeking external replacements, the company immediately elevated two long-term employees, Ankit Jain and Rachit Srivastava, to split engineering and product responsibilities 1.
This internal promotion strategy aligns with CEO Kapil Makhija’s emphasis on sustainable growth and strong unit economics, as highlighted during his Global Leadership Summit appearance in November 2024 2.
Unicommerce’s financial performance supports this strategic continuity, with revenue growing to INR 32.7 crore in Q3 FY25 (up from INR 26 crore year-over-year) and profits increasing 61.5% to INR 6.3 crore for the quarter 3.
The company’s decision to maintain leadership stability through internal promotions comes during a period of significant corporate evolution, having gone public in August 2024 followed by strategic acquisition activities like the pending Shipway Technology purchase 4.
2️⃣ Executive stability critical during post-IPO transition periods
Garg’s departure comes at a challenging time for Unicommerce, occurring less than a year after its August 2024 IPO and amid a 28.43% year-to-date stock price decline 5.
His seven-year tenure (2017-2025) provided critical leadership stability during Unicommerce’s transformation from a private company to a publicly-traded entity with expanded operations across Southeast Asia and the Middle East serving 7,000+ customers 6.
