UK watchdog probes tech giants over mobile market power
The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) plans to launch two investigations this month targeting large tech firms.
The investigations will focus on companies with “Strategic Market Status” (SMS) in specific digital activities, addressing concerns over Apple and Google’s dominance in mobile ecosystems.
The CMA will provide more details about the investigations in the coming months. Each investigation must conclude within nine months.
This development follows Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s directive in October for the CMA to prioritize economic growth in its evaluations.
