UK startup founders consider moving to US due to funding gap
British startups raised £16.2 billion (US$20.25 billion) in 2024, falling short of the £65 billion (US$81.25 billion) raised by their counterparts in Silicon Valley, according to Dealroom data.
The United States accounted for 57% of global venture capital funding last year. This marks the first time its share exceeded 50% in over a decade.
This disparity has prompted some UK founders to consider relocating to the US for better funding opportunities.
Mati Staniszewski, co-founder of the London-based AI firm ElevenLabs, stated that his company was established as a Delaware corporation to attract American investors familiar with that structure.
Barney Hussey-Yeo, founder and CEO of the AI startup Cleo, reported that he is contemplating a permanent move to US.
This trend highlights the challenges UK startups face in attracting global venture capital compared to their US counterparts.
