UK regulator fines OnlyFans $1.4m for age verification failures
Ofcom, the UK’s media and telecommunications regulator, has fined Fenix International Limited, the operator of OnlyFans, £1.05 million (US$1.4 million) for inaccuracies in its age verification processes.
The company failed to provide correct information about its third-party facial estimation technology, which uses live selfies to assess users’ ages.
OnlyFans initially reported its “challenger age” threshold as 23 years, but it was actually set at 20. The company later corrected this to 23 years in January 2025 before lowering it to 21.
Suzanne Cater, Ofcom’s enforcement director, emphasized the need for platforms to provide accurate information for regulatory oversight.
“We will hold platforms to high standards and will not hesitate to take enforcement action where we find failings,” she said.
A spokesperson for OnlyFans acknowledged the investigation’s resolution and reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to compliance.
Fenix International has not yet publicly commented on the matter.
