UK PE firm Apax to buy Israeli marketplace Yad2 for $950m
Apax Partners has agreed to acquire Yad2, an Israeli online marketplace for real estate, cars, and second-hand goods, for US$950 million.
The deal came after negotiations in London with KKR, which controls Yad2’s parent company.
Six companies initially bid, but talks narrowed to Apax and Blackstone. Francisco Partners and Warburg Pincus withdrew during the final stage.
Apax ultimately secured the acquisition.
The firm has experience in online classifieds, having acquired Baltic Classifieds Group, New Zealand’s Trade Me, and invested in Spain’s Idealista.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Apax could help Yad2 unlock transactions
- Apax will buy Yad2 for US$950 million, which gives it room to add services to Israel’s top listings site.
- Past deals include Baltic Classifieds Group, Trade Me, and Idealista. Across acquisitions Apax backed leaders and added payments, escrow (a third party holds funds until both sides meet agreed terms), identity checks.
- Escrow.com supports wire and Automated Clearing House (ACH) transfers. It charges 3.05% for PayPal and credit card payments 1. That gives Yad2 a template to earn a cut with checkout tools.
- If Apax repeats that formula, Yad2 may add payments and identity checks. It could deploy fraud controls soon after closing.
Trust and safety vendors have room as Yad2 builds payments under new owners
- Bank Hapoalim, Bank Leumi, and Mizrahi Tefahot serve West Bank settlements 2. They provide construction finance and mortgages. High‑value property deals need fraud prevention and identity checks.
- Fintech firms in escrow, fraud detection, or payment orchestration (software that routes and optimizes payments across processors) can move now. Apax tends to upgrade classifieds with payments, which opens a window to secure integration spots before Yad2 sets its system.
- Know Your Customer (KYC) and compliance vendors should engage Yad2 now. If the platform turns on payments, it will need to verify buyers and sellers. Coverage spans real estate, autos, and goods to meet rules in Israel.
