The UK government has postponed the publication of its AI regulation bill, which was expected before Christmas 2024.

The bill is now anticipated to be presented in Parliament no earlier than summer 2025, according to sources in the Labour Party.

The proposed legislation aims to require companies to submit large AI models, such as ChatGPT, for testing by the UK’s AI Security Institute.

The delay is tied to the government’s decision to align its AI strategy with that of the US, where regulatory efforts have shifted with changes in administration.

A government spokesperson affirmed that the administration remains committed to introducing legislation for responsible AI use.

Public consultation will occur before any regulatory framework is finalized.
