UK biotech firm Latent Labs launches AI tool for protein design
Latent Labs has launched a web-based AI model called LatentX for programming biology.
The company emerged from stealth mode six months ago, securing undisclosed funding.
LatentX lets users design new proteins using natural language in a browser.
According to Simon Kohl, CEO and founder of Latent Labs, the model has shown strong performance when tested on proteins in a laboratory setting.
Unlike AlphaFold, LatentX creates entirely new molecules like nanobodies.
The tool is free for now and licensed to academics and biotech companies.
The startup has received support from investors such as Radical Ventures, Sofinnova Partners, and notable industry figures including Google’s Chief Scientist, Jeff Dean.
