UK-based AI wearables startup Movetru bags $1.9m pre-seed
Movetru, a Northern Ireland-based AI wearables startup, has raised €1.4 million (US1.9 million) in pre-seed funding.
The company specializes in movement analysis and injury prevention for athletes.
Founded by Naomi McGregor, Movetru offers a wearable device and AI-powered app that delivers real-time biomechanical insights.
The funding round was led by Two Magnolias, with participation from IAG Capital, HBAN, Angel Academe, AwakenAngels, and several angel investors with expertise in sports and biomechanics.
Movetru plans to use the funds to scale its operations and expand its commercial rollout.
The technology is currently used by various sports organizations across the UK and Ireland.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ The evolution of sports medicine: from reactive treatment to proactive prevention
Movetru’s technology represents a significant shift in sports medicine that has been developing over decades.
Sports medicine has evolved from a purely biomedical model focusing on treatment after injury to a comprehensive biopsychosocial approach emphasizing prevention through multiple factors 1.
This transformation began in the 1990s with models like Van Mechelen’s Sequence of Prevention (1992), which outlined a four-step process: identifying the problem, understanding causes, implementing preventive measures, and assessing effectiveness 2.
Modern approaches now recognize that injury prevention requires continuous monitoring of biomechanical factors and movement patterns, which Movetru’s wearable technology delivers through real-time insights.
The shift toward prevention is financially significant too, as inadequate training and poor movement quality lead to substantial medical costs and lost playing time that could be avoided with early intervention technologies 3.
2️⃣ Democratizing advanced sports science for broader accessibility
Movetru’s funding success highlights a growing trend of making professional-grade sports science accessible beyond elite athletics.
