Ubisoft full-year net bookings drop 20.5%
Ubisoft, France’s largest video game publisher, reported a 20.5% decline in full-year net bookings for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
The company’s net bookings totaled 1.85 billion euro (US$2.07 billion), falling short of its 1.9 billion euro (US$2.1 billion) guidance.
The shortfall is due to game delays and underperformance of key titles, prompting plans for a new organizational structure by year-end.
For FY25 to FY26, Ubisoft expects flat bookings and break-even non-IFRS income, with 310 million euro (US$347 million) projected in Q1 net bookings.
CEO Yves Guillemot said more development time is being given to key projects, with major franchise releases planned over two years.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Ubisoft’s struggles reflect broader financial deterioration beyond a single-year downturn
The 20.5% decline in net bookings is part of a deeper financial pattern, not an isolated event.
Ubisoft has operated with negative profitability, reporting a net income of approximately -$54.6 million and a concerning profit margin of -2.56% in recent periods 1.
This financial deterioration is reflected in the company’s stock performance, which has declined by 52.08% over the past five years despite maintaining reasonable short-term liquidity with a current ratio of 2.32 2.
The company’s substantial debt position at 137.73% of equity further complicates its recovery prospects, limiting financial flexibility while it attempts to reorganize operations 1.
Ubisoft’s projected timeline for returning to positive operating income and cash flow generation in 2026-2027 signals that executives recognize the deep-rooted nature of these challenges, requiring multiple years of strategic adjustments.
2️⃣ The gaming industry’s growth paradox creates unique pressures for established publishers
While Ubisoft struggles, the broader gaming market is experiencing substantial expansion, projected to grow from $196 billion in 2023 to $257 billion by 2028 3.
This growth creates a challenge where publishers face increased pressure to capitalize on market opportunities while competing with more well-funded rivals for consumer attention and spending.
