Ubisoft creates $4.3b unit to oversee key franchises
Ubisoft Entertainment SA has announced the creation of a new subsidiary that will oversee key franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
The subsidiary is valued at approximately €4 billion (US$4.3 billion), with Tencent Holdings Ltd. acquiring a 25% stake for €1.16 billion (US$1.25 billion).
This new entity will manage the intellectual property of the included games and will earn royalties from their licenses.
Ubisoft said that the deal, expected to close by the end of 2025, aims to help reduce the company’s debt and support its other franchises.
Teams working on these titles, as well as the back catalog and games in development, will also shift to the subsidiary.
