Uber to test drone food deliveries by end of 2025

Uber will begin testing drone food deliveries with Flytrex in select Uber Eats pilot markets by the end of 2025.

The company is also investing in Flytrex, a US-based drone delivery startup, though the amount was not disclosed.

This marks Uber’s return to logistics experiments after exiting its in-house drone program due to regulatory challenges and pandemic cost-cutting.

Flytrex is approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration to operate drones beyond the operator’s line of sight.

Uber’s competitor DoorDash has used Flytrex for drone deliveries in parts of Texas and works with Alphabet’s Wing in other US locations and Australia.

Uber now focuses on partnerships and investments in logistics technology rather than building systems internally.
