Uber to cut 10% of workforce in major restructuring

Uber will cut more than 3,000 jobs worldwide, or about 10% of its workforce, as the San Francisco-based ride-hailing and delivery company trims management layers and redirects spending to its core business.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told employees in an email that Uber had expanded quickly, creating too many layers and small teams that slowed decision-making. He said the cuts would bring staffing back to roughly 2021 levels.

The restructuring affects both managers and non-managers. Uber also plans to fold many of its smallest teams into larger groups, but it has not said which locations will see the deepest cuts.

The move is one of Uber’s biggest restructurings in years and its largest layoff since the pandemic. Uber shares rose nearly 2% after the announcement.
