Pony.ai, a China-based autonomous driving company, said on August 14 it plans to deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis in Europe through an expanded partnership with Uber.

The expansion would extend the companies’ existing commercial robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, to four unnamed cities in Europe.

The plan also covers the Middle East. The original partnership, announced in May 2025, called for an initial launch on the Uber app in a Middle East market.

Pony.ai said 1,446 vehicles had been produced by March 2026 and that it was targeting a global robotaxi fleet of more than 3,000 by the end of 2026.

The company did not give a timeline for the rollout. Any deployment will also need regulatory approvals. The European Union’s General Safety Regulation establishes the approval framework for driverless vehicles, while individual member states and cities continue to set local operating conditions.
