Uber invests $10m in Indian fleet startup Carrum
Uber has invested US$10 million in Carrum Mobility, an India-based fleet management startup, in a series B round.
The investment comes as the ride-hailing company relies more on large operators to supply cars and drivers in the country.
Founder and chief executive Karan Jain said the round valued Carrum at about US$168 million post-money, up from about US$63 million after Uber invested US$7 million in January.
Carrum owns about 5,100 vehicles and has onboarded more than 18,000 drivers.
It supplies cars for Uber Go, Premier, and Black in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata.
Jain said Uber Black in India operates exclusively through fleet partners, and Carrum does not currently plan to supply rival ride-hailing platforms.
Uber already works with fleet partners that own and manage vehicles for drivers.
