Uber explores Delivery Hero asset sales for takeover
Uber has approached potential buyers for Delivery Hero assets in Latin America, Asia, and Europe as it pursues a full takeover of the German food delivery company and seeks to address antitrust concerns, according to people familiar with the matter.
Uber has built its stake in Delivery Hero to about 36.8%, including instruments, and has made a 33 euros (US$38) a share bid, though investors have been betting a higher price will be needed.
Potential overlaps include Delivery Hero operations such as PedidosYa in Latin America, Baedal Minjok in South Korea, and Glovo in Europe, though it was unclear which assets Uber may sell.
DoorDash is interested in Delivery Hero’s Middle East operations, which include listed Talabat Holding Plc.
Meanwhile, Riyadh-based quick-delivery startup Ninja submitted an indicative offer this week for HungerStation, Delivery Hero’s Saudi Arabia unit, and also expressed interest in parts of Talabat.
Prosus NV, an Amsterdam-based internet investment firm, has also been reducing its stake after European Union regulators cleared its acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway.com on condition that it divest most of its Delivery Hero holding and refrain from influencing the company for a period.
