Uber cuts 10% of customer service operations jobs

Uber said on July 22 that it cut 10% of jobs in its customer service operations team.

The company also asked some remote staff to relocate to hub offices as it seeks to simplify operations, support in-person collaboration, and “continue to embrace AI.”

The relocation aligns with a broader workplace policy shift.

Starting in June, Uber required corporate staff to work from the office three days a week, including some employees who had previously been approved for remote work.

The cuts follow a June reorganization that reduced Uber’s people division by 23%.

Uber said that move was meant to streamline recruitment and human resources, and was not driven by AI.

In May, Uber also told investors that autonomous agents were producing about 10% of the company’s code changes as it increased AI spending and slowed hiring.
