Uber, China’s Pony.ai to test robotaxis in London
Uber and Pony.ai plan to start robotaxi tests in London in the coming weeks, expanding their partnership in Europe.
Pony.ai, a China-based autonomous vehicle company listed on Nasdaq, first partnered with Uber in May 2025 with an initial focus on the Middle East.
In August 2026, Uber, Pony.ai, and Verne launched a robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia.
Pony.ai supplies the self-driving system and vehicles, Verne owns and operates the fleet, and Uber provides the booking platform.
The companies have not said who will own and operate the London fleet.
Pony.ai joins Uber’s push into autonomous driving in London, which also includes Wayve, a UK self-driving startup.
Uber and Wayve said on August 5, 2026, they were moving closer to autonomous rides there.
The UK’s automated vehicle trialling code provides guidance for public-road testing.
The London Assembly has called for Transport for London to control driverless taxi trials.
