Uber CEO says Tesla rejects partnership for robotaxi plans

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi confirmed that Tesla will launch its robotaxi service independently and will not collaborate with Uber.

Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Miami on Feb. 21, he said discussions with Tesla CEO Elon Musk ended with Tesla opting for a solo approach.

“They want to build it alone,” Khosrowshahi said, but noted Uber remains open to a future partnership.

Tesla’s decision positions it as a competitor to Uber and Alphabet’s Waymo, which plans to launch autonomous rides in Austin next month and expand to Atlanta and Miami by 2026.

Since 2023, Uber has formed over 12 partnerships with self-driving firms, but Tesla has chosen not to integrate with Uber’s platform.

Khosrowshahi believes Tesla’s participation could help stabilize demand in the autonomous vehicle market.

Tesla has not commented on the matter.
