Vietnam partners with UAE’s G42 on $1b sovereign AI initiative

G42, an Abu Dhabi-based AI and cloud infrastructure group, has signed a framework agreement with Vietnam’s FPT Corporation and Viet Thai Group to develop sovereign AI capabilities and data centers across Vietnam.

The partnership, announced in Ho Chi Minh City, includes a commitment of up to US$1 billion to deploy AI and cloud infrastructure, aiming to support Vietnam’s goal of becoming an AI-focused society.

The agreement establishes the legal and regulatory framework for deploying data centers at three locations in Vietnam, with a focus on data sovereignty and digital resilience.

FPT, Vietnam’s largest IT services firm, and Viet Thai, a major consumer and retail group, will contribute local expertise and strategic insights.

The initiative is part of Vietnam’s broader digital transformation efforts, including workforce development programs for AI adoption.

The partners plan to move to the next phase, involving site development and regulatory approval processes.
