The United Arab Emirates plans to invest US$1 billion to expand AI infrastructure and services in Africa.

UAE minister of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, announced the initiative at the G20 summit, saying the funding will develop digital infrastructure, improve government services, and increase productivity.

The investment aims to give African nations access to AI computing power, expertise, and partnerships.

He added that the plan will support projects in education, agriculture, healthcare, digital identity, and climate adaptation.

The UAE is now the fourth-largest investor in Africa, with investments in renewable energy, logistics, and critical minerals.

This move comes as the UAE increases its global AI spending, including major investments in the US and at home.
