UAE healthcare provider Aster Clinics launches AI dental tool
Aster Clinics, a UAE-based healthcare provider and part of Aster DM Healthcare in the GCC, has introduced Smyl AI, an AI-based dental screening tool.
This tool provides free dental screenings via WhatsApp, aiming to enhance accessibility to oral health assessments.
Developed with Logy.AI, Smyl AI enables users to complete a dental screening in under two minutes by answering questions and uploading images of their teeth.
The AI generates a report highlighting potential issues such as cavities, gum disease, or plaque.
Users can then schedule consultations with Aster Clinics’ dental specialists for further evaluation.
This initiative aligns with Aster Clinics’ focus on early detection and proactive dental care in the UAE. A regional survey indicated that 80% of residents experience dental caries, while only 20% attend annual dental visits.
Smyl AI aims to mitigate barriers like cost and inconvenience that discourage timely care.
The tool is accessible via WhatsApp and complies with UAE healthcare data protection regulations, ensuring user privacy and confidentiality.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ AI dental tools address a critical public health challenge in the UAE
Aster’s introduction of Smyl AI responds to alarming dental health statistics in the UAE that reveal a significant care gap.
A recent UAE survey found that 80% of residents suffer from dental caries, with half only visiting dentists when in pain, and merely 20% attending annual check-ups 1.
These findings align with systematic reviews showing dental caries prevalence ranges from 22% to 99.4% among children across different emirates, with risk factors including poor oral hygiene practices and low utilization of dental services 2.
The WhatsApp-based screening approach addresses accessibility barriers, potentially increasing early detection rates among the majority who don’t seek regular preventive care.
By making initial assessments free and convenient, Smyl AI targets the documented behavioral pattern of UAE residents avoiding dental visits until experiencing pain.
