TSMC weighs 5% to 10% chip price hike for 2027: sources
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the Taiwan-based contract chipmaker that makes semiconductors for companies including Nvidia and Apple, discussed possible 2027 chip price increases of 5% to 10% with some clients, according to people familiar with the matter.
The proposed increase is intended to offset rising production costs for materials, equipment, and power.
The proposed increase would apply to TSMC’s base pricing and may cover both advanced and mature, or older-generation, semiconductors.
The range is broadly consistent with other reports that it has been planning price hikes on advanced nodes.
One cost pressure is electricity. TSMC has said Taiwan could become its most expensive market for power, and industrial electricity tariffs there have risen sharply in recent adjustments.
The talks also reflect a broader foundry trend, with some contract chip suppliers planning hikes in 2026.
Earlier in July, TSMC raised its 2026 capital spending and revenue outlook.
The company said it expects demand for chips and data centers to remain strong into 2027 and beyond.
